Grid and Cloud computing – An overview


Cloud computing is a model of delivering computing resources from the Internet to the user. Computing resources can be any Software- Applications, OS, service, information – encyclopedia, search engine results.
Cloud computing is a concept that is an instrument and a history, its a bundle of possibilities like SAAS[software as a service (SaaS)],IAAS[Infrastructure as a service (IaaS)] Cloud uses net as the source of computing resources and delivering them directly to the user.
Cloud Computing Classifications
All cloud computing offerings can classified into THREE types
  1.   Platforms- environment for running application and maintaining them- GAE ,Salesforce ,Microsoft Azure   
  2.   Infrastructure-Provides all the Infrastructure and management components to manage the applications, EC2
  3.   Applications- delivery of software as a service – example – G-mail,Google Docs.
 Why is it called Cloud Computing ?
Because in network diagrams, the Internet is depicted as a cloud

Technical  Definition:
Cloud computing is a model for enabling convenient,  on-demand network access to a shared pool of configurable computing resources (e.g., networks, servers, storage, applications, and services)  that can be rapidly provisioned and released with minimal management effort or service provider interaction.
